Business in the Community is a unique movement of companies across the UK committed to improving continually their positive impact on society, with a core membership of 650 companies, including 75 per cent of the FTSE 100. Demos

Demos is an independent think tank committed to radical thinking on the long-term problems facing the UK and other advanced industrial societies. It aims to develop ideas – both theoretical and practical – to help shape the politics of the twenty-first century, and to improve the breadth and depth of political debate.

National Centre: Education for Work and Enterprise

The role of the National Centre is to raise awareness among educators in Scotland of the vital role they play in providing young people with the skills and abilities they need. National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship

NFTE is an international, non-profit organisation that targets socially excluded and disadvantaged young people from local communities. It introduces them to the world of business and entrepreneurship by teaching how to develop and operate their own legitimate small business. The 3 core elements of NFTE are:

  • creating and developing curriculum resources (both text and internet based)
  • training teachers
  • alumni support and services

NFTE-UK was established in March 2000 and, with the financial support of the DfEE, has just certified 23 educators from schools colleges and community organisations from around Great Britain. The first NFTE student classes have just commenced in Sheffield and North London.
