Other sources of R & D funding

Small and medium-sized enterprises (companies with fewer than 250 full-time employees and annual turnover of no more than €40 million, or an annual balance sheet total – total assets net of depreciation – of no more than €27 million) may continue to receive support for single company R&D through the DTI’s Grant for Research and Development. This business support product replaces the Smart Scheme and can provide up to £500,000 of funding for exceptional projects.

Companies wishing to seek support for non-collaborative R&D in the new and renewable energy area may also apply to the Carbon Trust, which has tri-annual calls.
