Consumer Policy: Gas and Electricity

The Government’s policy is to promote, and improve the operation of, competitive markets.  It believes that competition delivers significant benefits to energy customers, and that those benefits are enhanced by protecting the interests of customers, through both regulation and statutory, independent consumer representation arrangements.  

DTI:

  • delivers Government policy on gas and electricity consumer matters

  • works with other Government Departments, OFGEM, Energywatch and industry to improve markets and help customers
