WELCOME to the Consumer Gateway - a one stop service run by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Do you know your rights when shopping? Experienced a holiday from hell and didn't know who to complain to? Want to know how to avoid being a scam victim?

The Gateway has links to a variety of websites that will provide the answers to these questions and many more. This will enable you to tackle your consumer problems as well as helping you to make informed decisions before buying goods and services.

If you cannot find the topic you are looking for, you might want to look at our information sources section.

The DTI is responsible for the Governments' consumer policy, but we do not provide advice on individual consumer problems or complaints. You will need to contact your local Trading Standards Department, Citizens Advice or the Office of Fair Trading for help. The Consumer Gateway has links to their websites, as well as to other 'filtered' and credible sites run by Governments departments, consumer organisations and others.

Please use our feedback form to tell us what other consumer subjects you think should be covered by the Gateway and any other suggestions you have to improve the site.
