On 8 March 2005, the Energy Minister announced that the Government intended to exercise the Energy Act power to adjust transmission charges for renewable generators on the Scottish islands of Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles, and to consult on whether the power should be exercised on the mainland of Northern Scotland. This consultation explains the policy background to the Energy Act power, and sets out the analysis that DTI has undertaken on the impact of transmission charges on renewable development in the North of Scotland. It invites views on this analysis and the Government’s proposals. The consultation will be of particular interest to developers of renewable generation, and those engaged in the transmission, distribution, supply and generation of electricity.
