Q1. What do the regulations do?

They restrict the lead content of any tin or other metallic coating used on the surface of utensils designed to come into contact with food.

Q2. Where can I get a copy of the Regulations?

The legislation is available from The Stationery Office (0870 600 5522) or through bookshops.

Q3. Who enforces the Regulations?

Local authority trading standards departments.

Q4. What penalties are available to the enforcement authorities?

Failure to meet the requirements of safety regulations can result in a fine of up to £5000 and/or a prison term of up to six months.
