How Business can challenge red tape

Business is a vital partner for DTI in the fight against red tape.  We need business to tell us which legislation and policies are too burdensome, too bureaucratic and too unwieldy – those which sound like a good idea but simply don’t work out in the real world.

There are many ways in which business can get involved:

  • Comment on our simplification programme OR give us your own simplification ideas.
  • Speak to your trade association.  We’re in frequent contact with major trade associations.  Some of these are represented on our Ministerial Challenge panel. This is chaired by the Minister for Competitiveness and gives business, the Better Regulation Commission, the Better Regulation Executive and other Government departments the opportunity to challenge significant DTI policies and regulations as they develop.
  • Speak to your contacts in DTI, including your Business Relations contacts.
  • Respond to consultations on DTI policy and legislation through our Consultations web page.
  • Join a sector-specific group, such as the ‘VIPER’ forum for the automotive industry or others which give business and industry a chance to discuss upcoming regulatory developments.
  • Sign-up for Business Link’s regulatory updates to help you prepare for new legislative developments.
  • Join the Small Business Database for a chance to comment on new policies with an impact on small business.
  • Monitor EU developments using the new policy roadmaps developed by the Commission.
  • Become a panellist on the European Business Test Panel for a chance to comment on upcoming EU proposals.
  • Check out EU consultations on the ‘Your Voice’ website.
