FAIR MARKETS: OUR STORY FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS

Our work in DTI has a profound influence on markets - labour markets, capital markets and markets for goods and services. So it is vital that we have principles that underpin how we shape and intervene in markets when necessary. To do this we have, in partnership with stakeholders, developed a high level Fair Markets narrative.

·         setting out our belief in the markets as the best means of delivering prosperity for all

·        describing the principles by which we interact with and, where necessary, intervene in the markets.

The narrative sets out our commitment to opening markets and making them work for the benefit of all participants - consumers, employees and business – and the priority areas for the next five years. For the full narrative click here:

In Fair Markets we are committed to reaching out and engaging with stakeholders meaningfully so that we can work together to develop ideas and solutions. This has been exemplified by our work to develop the Fair Markets narrative but also more broadly in our work.

As part of our commitment to engaging with and learning from our stakeholders we commissioned an independent audit from Mori of our stakeholder relationships. The report was very encouraging:

·        describing us as responsive, professional, consultative and effective.

·        but highlighting where we need to do more – on consulting better, being more long term and building partnerships with stakeholders.

We have already begun work to improve these areas. For the full report click here:
