The Department of Trade and Industry's

WELSH LANGUAGE SITE

(Cymraeg)

Introduction

The Department of Trade and Industry's Welsh Language Scheme was endorsed by the Welsh Language Board on 30 August 2000 and formally came into force on 1 November 2000. In accordance with the Welsh Language Act 1993, the DTI's Scheme sets out commitments to ensure that the Welsh and English languages are treated on a basis of equality in DTI services to the public in Wales, wherever "appropriate in the circumstances and reasonably practicable".

In accordance with the Scheme this section of the DTI website provides:

  • access to the full text of the Welsh Language Scheme (see below) - including an introduction to the DTI in Welsh: Description of Department of Trade and Industry

  • access to a list of all other documents and information published by the Department in Welsh

The Welsh Language Scheme

The Department of Trade and Industry's Welsh Language Scheme sets out commitments that ensure that 'in the conduct of public business in Wales, it will treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality.' For example, there are a range of commitments for using Welsh in the Department's publicity and advertising campaigns. In addition, people attending public meetings arranged by DTI in Wales will be able to contribute in Welsh if they wish, and correspondence in Welsh will automatically receive a Welsh reply.

The full text of the Scheme may be viewed by choosing either the Contents or PDF options below.

Other published material available in Welsh

The Welsh Language Scheme includes a progressive timetable for implementation. It is expected that all published material falling within the terms of the Scheme will meet the needs of the Welsh speaking public within one year of the Board's endorsement of the Scheme. Material translated into Welsh and available in hard copy may be ordered using Publications@dti. Material translated into Welsh and available on the website can be accessed using the following link:
