DIY store sells solar heating system

Powertech Solar Systems Ltd has concluded a deal with B&Q, the DIY retail chain, to sell domestic solar heating systems at 28 B&Q stores around the country. The Powertech multi-line solar heating system design is available in three formats, with two collector sizes, to suit single people, couples and families. Sales of ten units per store per month are targeted, at a retail price of up to £1800 (including VAT) each.

By offering solar heating equipment at this price, Powertech's Eric Hawkins, the equipment's designer, believes that the UK domestic market will begin to accept solar heating as a vital way to save money and conserve energy. "Selling solar to the general public when they have already invested in other types of heating is very difficult", he comments. "But it can reduce a hot water energy bill by 55-70%". NEW REVIEW will keep you up-to-date with the progress of this initiative.
