Welcome To The Cabinet Office Diversity
Website
Whilst Departments themselves determine their diversity
priorities, and are accountable for their own decisions and actions,
Cabinet Office is responsible for ensuring that the Civil Service
as a whole meets the Government’s commitment to achieving
greater representation of minority ethnic staff, women and staff
with disabilities at senior levels.
Aspirational targets for diversity set by the Prime Minister:
"Ensure that the Civil Service becomes more open and diverse,
by achieving
by 2004-05 the agreed targets of:
- 35% of the SCS to be women; (26.4% at April 03)
- 25% of top 600 posts to be filled by women; (22.9% April 03)
- 3.2% of the SCS to be from ethnic minority backgrounds; (2.8%
April 03)
- 3% of the SCS to be people with disabilities." (1.7% at
April 03)
Our responsibilities are:
- identifying key policy issues for the Service as a whole and
for sharing best practice across departments
- supporting departments in developing and implementing their
diversity policies
- working closely with the Civil Service Unions
- underpinning the work of Sir Nicholas Montagu - Chairman of
Inland Revenue and Civil Service Diversity Champion
- linking to the Equality Co-ordination Unit in the DTI which
draws together legislation, policy, public sector targets and
other work under the headings: Cross cutting issues, Article 13,
Race, Disability, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Age and Religion
This site contains information on all aspects of Civil Service
diversity plus our legal requirements as employers and employees,
good practice examples and useful contacts.
"The Civil Service must become truly diverse; nothing less
makes moral,
business or social sense."
