Approval of VQs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

SSC 'approval' of vocational qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

The employers’ voice on skills is strengthened by making Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) responsible for approving vocational training. This gives SSCs a formal role in defining the content, ensuring consistency, determining which vocational qualifications are needed in their sector and removing unnecessary duplication.

Pilots were run in 2007/2008 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland looking at the processes by which SSCs could approve VQs.

Ofqual is working with FAB, JCQ and UKCES to agree the process that allows SSCs to have their say in the VQ approval process.
