Arrangements have been put in place for NVQs to continue within the QCF under a common set of regulatory requirements
The QCF Regulatory Arrangements set out how ‘NVQ’ can be used in the title of QCF qualifications for certain occupational qualifications provided they meet the requirements in the operating rules for using this term.
Guidance on qualification titles within the QCF published by Ofqual in September 2009 provides guidance on particular titling issues raised by awarding organisations and sector skills councils. This includes guidance on the use of NVQ in the title of qualifications – which means that the NVQ title can live on in full within the QCF where employers and awarding organisations want it.
The rules for allowing the use of NVQ in qualifications’ titles ensure that this usage signifies competence and adherence to National Occupational Standards (NOS). These rules maintain the purpose of NVQs while removing standardised bureaucracy. And SSCs now have the flexibility to decide what they want for these qualifications.
Detailed information about the QCF is available at the QCDA website.
