Skills for a Sustainable Future

In June 2008 DIUS convened a Windsor Consultation at St. George's House, Windsor Castle from mid-afternoon on Tuesday, June 17th until lunchtime on the 18th

The purpose of the event was to ask whether we could work up a 'compelling skills proposition' commensurate with the scale of the market opportunity for British industry in developing sustainable solutions and new technologies to help address the major environmental challenges of our time.

Key Aims of the Consultation

  • To work up a compelling skills proposition commensurate with the scale of the market opportunity for British industry in developing new technologies and sustainable solutions to help address the major global challenges of our time;
  • To develop our thinking about the scope for greater employer leadership and Government-generated 'strategic demand' to promote the cross-sector skills needed to support a resource-efficient low carbon economy in the future;
  • To feed in to Ministerial thinking about the possible key elements of a strategic skills proposition to put before the Low Carbon Economy Summit on June 26th.
