Jobs

p>Almost all organisations have an internal "jobs bulletin" which lists available opportunities. This is typically the best source of information on vacancies within your organisation, as it often includes a number of positions that are not advertised elsewhere.

The Civil Service Recruitment Gateway is an excellent source for information on jobs outside your current organisation, but still within the civil service. It includes a section containing jobs that anyone can apply for, as well as a section that is restricted to existing civil servants.

In addition, a number of civil service science and engineering organisations directly advertise jobs on their web sites. A list of key organisations, along with links to their sites, is available elsewhere on this site.

Opportunities outside the civil service can be investigated in a number of ways. These include regional and national press, specialist magazines and Internet sites. Two of the most relevant sites are those hosted by the New Scientist and The Engineer.
