Purpose of Role: An opportunity has arisen for a Terminology professional to manage the development and routine use of terminology functions across the MHRA’s new Sentinel system. The Terminology and Reference Data Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all such processes apply the appropriate levels of scientific rigour commensurate with later data querying requirements.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Manage the development and routine use of key dictionary resources, e.g. MedDRA, ATC and business process pick lists
  • Manage with Accenture the routine updating and testing of such resources
  • Represent the Agency on external bodies involved in the development and use of scientific ontology
  • Ensure that key reference data resources meet the current and future needs of the agency
  • Manage the staff of the unit

Essential criteria to apply: (shortlist and interview criteria)

  • have a good working knowledge of terminology systems used in a medical/healthcare environment
  • have a good working knowledge of the UK medicines regulatory process
  • have a scientific degree in the biological/pharmaceutical sciences and relevant work experience, preferably in the academic or industrial pharmaceutical sector or 3 years equivalent experience
  • at least 1 years management experience
  • takes responsibility for the achievements of a team to ensure that major new initiatives or proposals are implemented
  • experience in dealing with complex problems requiring independent decisions to be made
  • demonstrate good interpersonal skills, communicating across a wide spectrum of disciplines and grades
  • experience in building and sustaining relationships with contractors/suppliers
  • excellent attention to detail and accuracy
