A schematic illustration of the career framework is provided as a diagram. For convenience, the three career families have been abbreviated as follows: GS - General Senior Civil Service; TM - Technical Manager, TS - Technical Specialist.
Whilst this illustration provides a useful way to summarise the framework description it should not be interpreted too rigorously. For example, the boundaries between the three "career branches" illustrated on the right‑hand side of the diagram are not as distinct as they may appear. It is possible to find jobs that combine technical specialist work with wider technical managerial responsibilities.
A number of example jobs have been located on the schematic illustration, along with job titles, and links to the associated advert. All the adverts and job descriptions that are used were taken from the Civil Service Recruitment Gateway.
Please note that these jobs were located in the framework by the HoSEP Team without reference to the employing organisation. As a result, some may be slightly misplaced, especially on the horizontal axis. Furthermore, as described above, the three branches of the structure are not as distinct as could be implied by the illustration and, as a result, some example job descriptions have been placed between branches.
