DIUS Permanent Secretary, Ian Watmore is Appointed Chief Executive of the Football Association

The Football Association has today confirmed Ian Watmore as its new Chief Executive

Mr Watmore is currently Permanent Secretary at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). He will take up his new post in June.

Speaking of his appointment, Mr Watmore said:

"I have had a fantastic five years in the Civil Service, first at the Cabinet Office then at Number 10 and most recently establishing the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

"The Civil Service is full of committed, professional people delivering high quality public services, and I am proud to have been one of their number".

The Cabinet Secretary, Gus O'Donnell said:

"I would like to congratulate Ian on his new role. Ian has made a tremendous contribution to the Civil Service over the past five years, establishing the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills as its first Permanent Secretary and, prior to that, driving public service reform as Head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit and Government Chief Information Officer.

I know Ian will take the dedication and passion he has demonstrated in these roles with him to the Football Association. I wish him every success for the future."
