UK Innovation Investment Fund

Science equipment photo The Prime Minister announced on 29 June 2009 the creation of the UK Innovation Investment Fund to invest in technology-based businesses with high growth potential. The new fund will focus on investing in growing small businesses, start-ups and spin-outs, in digital and life sciences, clean technology and advanced manufacturing.

Fund of Fund Managers Announced

9 December 2009

Delivering his Pre Budget Report to the House of Commons the Chancellor today announced the intention to appoint, subject to contract, Hermes Private Equity and the European Investment Fund as Fund of Funds Managers for the UK Innovation Investment Fund.

The UKIIF will ensure that up to £325 million of new venture capital is available to invest in Britain’s businesses and start ups in key sectors (life sciences, clean technology, digital and advanced manufacturing) by early 2010. The announcement marked a key milestone in the development of the Fund.

Investor Summit

Around 100 institutional investors and leading figures from the VC industry attended an Investor Summit in the City to hear key speakers including Dr Mike Lynch, Founder and CEO of Autonomy discuss the opportunities for investing in UK technology companies.
