BIS continues to work with universities and colleges, with representative bodies like the NUS and with the police to help manage and identify the risks posed by violent extremism.
We issued guidance to the HE sector in January 2008 to support universities to work with the vast majority of students on campus to foster shared values and to isolate and challenge the very small minority who promote violent extremism.

The Department's work with the sector also forms part of a much larger Government PREVENT programme. We believe that the guidance has assisted the HE sector in this area and through our cooperative approach this has resulted in working with a smaller number of institutions where there is a potential of risk.
