The Medical Research Council (MRC) aims to improve human health through world class medical research

 Medical Research Council

The MRC is a non departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and established by Royal Charter.

Its chair is Sir John Chisholm and chief executive and deputy chair is Sir Leszek Borysiewicz.

The MRC’s mission is to improve human health through world-class medical research. To achieve this, it supports research across the biomedical spectrum, from fundamental lab-based science to clinical trials, and in all major disease areas.

It works closely with the NHS and the UK Health Departments to deliver its mission, and gives a high priority to research that is likely to make a real difference to clinical practice and the health of the population.
