The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funds research and training in social and economic issues
The ESRC is a non departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and established by Royal Charter.
Its chief executive is Professor Ian Diamond.
The ESRC funds research and training in social and economic issues. It focuses on six research areas:
- economic affairs
- education and human development
- environment and planning
- government and law
- industry and employment
- social affairs
