Bologna Process

The Bologna Process is an intergovernmental initiative which aims to create a European Higher Education Area by 2010 and to promote the European system of higher education worldwide.

It now has 46 participating countries and it is conducted outside the formal decision-making framework of the European Union. Decision-making within the Process rests on the consent of all the participating countries.

The UK provided a Secretariat to the Bologna Follow Up Group and its Board for the two year period up to 30 June 2007. From 1 July 2007 responsibility for providing the Secretariat passed to the Benelux Countries.

Visit the Bologna Process website.
