Current and future equality leglisation

Equality legislation needs to be taken into account whether delivering and managing services; communicating with partners or customers; carrying out responsibilities as managers; or working with colleagues.

The following provides some broad points on the coverage of current and planned legislation together with links to the Codes of Practice and associated reports.

The Equality Act 2006

Provides for the setting up of a single equality body, The Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR), and introduces new provisions to protect against discrimination on the grounds of religion and belief, gender (and sexual orientation through future regulations). The CEHR is due to be launched in October 2007.
