Governors are a "volunteer force" of individuals from college communities who wish to make a positive contribution to the education of learners of all ages
Governors have an important part to play in raising standards through their three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating college performance.
Both through their individual and collective roles, they are expected to set the overall educational character and direction of the college, to determine the overall pattern of the college's provision and to monitor the quality and effectiveness of this provision and of its services.
The FE Governance website has details of how governing boards work and information on the roles and responsibilities of the members of the governing board.
