The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is working to make sure everyone is equipped with the skills and opportunities to succeed. It is transforming the skills system with the creation of the Skills Funding Agency, which, from April 2010, will be the single funding provider for adult skills in England outside of higher education.
The Skills Funding Agency's main function will be to direct funding quickly and efficiently to further education colleges and other skills providers. It will take an activist approach to deliver the skills that employers and individuals need now and in the future, supporting skills development in areas of strategic importance to the economy.
