Alun Evans

Alun is Director of Policy and Communications in the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). Prior to his current post he was Interim Director General of Science and Research at DIUS, and prior to that, Secretary to the Review of the 2007 Foot and Mouth outbreak, having also led the Inquiry team into the 2001 outbreak. From 2006-mid 2007 he was Director General for Transformation in the Department for Communities and Local Government, where he led the Programme to build the new Department and develop its organisational capacity.

From 2003-2006 he was Director of Fire and Resilience in the Department for Communities and Local Government, with responsibilities for the fire and rescue service and resilience.

Alun has also held positions within a number of departments including Director of Communication in the Department of Environment, Transport, and the Regions, Head of the Strategic Communications Unit at 10 Downing Street and Principal Private Secretary to successive Secretaries for State of Education and Employment from 1994-1998.
