Better Regulation

Better regulation is not just about reducing legislation. It’s about effective, efficient policies, developed through wide consultation and credible analysis of the costs and benefits to all stakeholders.

The five better regulation principles say that policies should be:

  • transparent
  • accountable
  • proportionate
  • consistent
  • targeted – only at cases where action is needed

In DIUS we are aiming to lead Whitehall in targeted, proportionate and innovative policy making. DIUS and our delivery partners are working to minimise the costs and bureaucracy of complying with requirements, maximise effectiveness and make services as accessible as possible.
