Final annual report

The final annual report of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) summarises the Department's performance during the year April 2008 – March 2009.

Introducing the report, Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, said: "This report shows the vital role DIUS played in helping Government put in place a range of support for businesses and individuals in Britain to help them through the current downturn as quickly as possible and to prepare for the opportunities that a return to global growth will bring in the future."

Business Plan

This document is for DIUS staff, stakeholders and delivery partners. It sets out:

- The role of the Department;
- Priority deliverables for 2008-09;
- Our contribution to the Government's longer term and cross-departmental challenges;
- The resources available to us;
- Our plans for building and running the new department.

In order to ensure the plan remains relevant and useful, it will be updated twice during the year to coincide with parliamentary terms.

Better Regulation

Better regulation is not just about reducing legislation. It’s about effective, efficient policies, developed through wide consultation and credible analysis of the costs and benefits to all stakeholders.

In DIUS we are aiming to lead Whitehall in targeted, proportionate and innovative policy making.
