Departmental Report 2008

In its first annual report, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) has outlined a 'Blueprint for success' to ensure it can focus on engaging with customers' needs and requirements.

Launching the report, DIUS Secretary of State John Denham said, "Our mission is to improve the nation's skills at every level and make the UK the leading place to be an innovative business or organisation."

Business Plan

This document is for DIUS staff, stakeholders and delivery partners. It sets out:

- The role of the Department;
- Priority deliverables for 2008-09;
- Our contribution to the Government's longer term and cross-departmental challenges;
- The resources available to us;
- Our plans for building and running the new department.

In order to ensure the plan remains relevant and useful, it will be updated twice during the year to coincide with parliamentary terms.

Better Regulation

Better regulation is not just about reducing legislation. It’s about effective, efficient policies, developed through wide consultation and credible analysis of the costs and benefits to all stakeholders.

In DIUS we are aiming to lead Whitehall in targeted, proportionate and innovative policy making.
