The Department is working with other government departments, the health care and social care regulators, its partners in local government and with the research community to address safeguarding issues for adults.

The consultation by the Department of Health, the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice closed on 31 January. There was a large and detailed national response and the information is being analysed at present.
The primary aim of the Act is to strengthen current safeguarding arrangements for vulnerable individuals. Its purpose is to reduce the risk of individuals suffering harm at the hands of those employed (in either a paid or voluntary capacity) to work with them.
