NHS staff make a vital contribution to ensuring that the NHS delivers high quality care. We are therefore committed to making sure that they are fully and fairly rewarded through a package of pay, pensions and other benefits.
We want to ensure that our pay and reward system is clear, objective, and is based on the principle of the right level of reward for the job done. National pay policy for the NHS is therefore designed to provide fair, affordable pay in order to recruit, retain and motivate staff for the benefit of patients and to provide value for money for taxpayers.
Any system must also be responsive to the views of staff working across the NHS. We recognise that this is best achieved by developing partnership working throughout the NHS.
