This strategic outline case is concerned with the investment in a National Patient Records Analysis Service (NPRAS) which will support the delivery of the NHS Plan by improving the management and delivery health services through the provision of access to good quality data and information to support performance and resource management, clinical governance and audit, planning, commissioning, research and surveillance activities.

2001 policy document following the direction set by 'Information for Health' in 1998. Provides an updated, more progressive way for the NHS to reach its IT-related goals. The successful implementation of 'Building the Information Core' will be a key part of carrying out the NHS Plan.
This letter (15 June 2001) explains the importance of ensuring accurate data is retrieved from NHS organisations so that the NHS Plan's goal of achieving accurate measurement of performance is met.

'Working Together with Health Information' is an education and training strategy developed in 1999 to support the ongoing modernisation of NHS information systems. The strategy includes policy level guidance on developing new skills and altering the information culture of the NHS, as well as details of new IT-related education, training and development initiatives.
Plans formed in 1999 by each health economy in England to implement the government's overall strategy for IT in the NHS. The plans are called Local Implementation Strategies (LIS). Choose the regional summaries for an overview of all local strategies, or individual reports for greater detail.
The purpose of this information strategy is to ensure that information is used to help patients receive the best possible care. The strategy will enable NHS professionals to have the information they need both to provide that care and to play their part in improving the public's health. The strategy also aims to ensure that patients, carers and the public have the information necessary to make decisions about their own treatment and care, and to influence the shape of health services generally.
