After consideration of responses to consultation on the report of the independent Committee on the Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE)  on the use of computed tomography (CT) scanning of the asymptomatic individual, the Department of Health

  • intends to make appropriate changes to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 (IRMER2000)
  • has formed the view that up to date guidance needs to be available to practitioners and regulators that is acceptable to professional bodies such as the Royal College of Radiologists and the Royal College of Physicians
  • intends to review the Justification of Practices Involving Ionising Radiation Regulations 2004.
