The Plan’s purpose is to enhance resilience in the event of a heatwave. It is an important component of overall emergency planning and will become increasingly relevant in adapting to the impact of climate change. The heatwave in 2009 provided the opportunity to test out the heatwave plan and identify ways of improving service responses.
Lessons have been drawn from addressing pandemic flu and from the annual seminar hosted by the Health Protection Agency to improve this year’s heatwave plan.

A number of other wireless based technologies are common in homes and workplaces and it is clear that such devices will continue to increase in number and diversity.
