Liquid Biofuels and Renewable Hydrogen to 2050
The UK's 2003 Energy White Paper identified two fuels with the potential to achieve very large reductions in road transport CO2: renewable hydrogen and biomass-based fuels. It committed the Government to undertaking an assessment of the overall and long-term energy implications of the very large-scale use of these fuels in road transport, with a time-horizon of 2050.
The Department for Transport prepared this assessment, working closely with other Government departments and drawing on two commissioned academic studies and wide-ranging stakeholder input. The assessment has been completed and published alongside the Transport White Paper, The Future of Transport.
