Young Drivers Scheme

Expansion of the Young Drivers Scheme to help companies recruit trainees between the ages of 16 and 21 on a structured training programme. This offers the chance to obtain an LGV category C licence at 18 rather than 21.

Changes in Learning and Skills Council (LSC) funding rules for Modern Apprenticeships now allow funding up to the age of 25 instead of the previous 19. Therefore, the Young Drivers Scheme has become embedded within a Modern Apprenticeship supported by LSC funding to ensure that the qualification is sustainable after the Road Haulage Modernisation Fund.
