Respect for people

This scheme will develop and implement voluntary workforce Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These benchmarking measures will be used to improve the status and workplace conditions of lorry drivers and enhance driver retention, recruitment and development.

KPIs will be developed in six areas, in consultation with the industry:

  1. Driver welfare
  2. Driver safety and security
  3. Driver facilities and amenities
  4. Personal and professional standards for drivers
  5. Equality and diversity of the driving workforce
  6. Driver training and development.

The programme was rolled out to the industry in February 2004.This scheme was supported under the Road Haulage Modernisation Fund and is continuing - Government gives more help to hauliers .
