Consultation on draft Guidance for Local Transport Plans

Summary: This document is draft statutory Guidance to support local authorities in producing Local Transport Plans. It applies to local authorities outside of London required to produce a Local Transport Plan under the Transport Act 2000, as amended by the Local Transport Act 2008. The first and second round of Local Transport Plans (LTPs) cover 2001-06 and 2006-11. This Guidance applies to all LTPs after these rounds and has effect until further guidance is produced.

In December 2008, the Department issued a 16-week consultation on draft Local Transport Plan Guidance. The Guidance is to inform local transport authorities’ next Local Transport Plans, due to be in place by April 2011. In total, 126 responses were received from a range of organisations. This document is a summary of responses.

Policies and Best Practice Handbook (103 kb)

LTP3 guidance focuses on supporting LAs with the process of developing plans. This accompanying Policies and Best Practice Handbook is not part of the statutory Guidance, but refers local authorities to documents that will assist in preparing and developing their LTP. Where possible, web links have been provided.
