Extractive Industries Transparency InitiativeA multi-stakeholder conference will be held in London on 17 June 2003. Attendance is by invitation only. Valerie Amos, Secretary of State for International Development will chair the event and Tony Blair, Prime Minister will address the conference. At this event participants will be invited to make brief public statements of their positions in relation to the EITI and to comment on the Statement of Principles and plans to participate in the Agreed Actions (html or pdf versions). There will be particular interest in those countries expressing an intention to pilot new approaches to reporting. We will also be tabling a revised draft of the reporting guidelines (html or pdf versions) that were discussed at a technical meeting on 12 May. Background to the Initiative:The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, September 2002. Its aim is to increase transparency over payments by companies and revenues to governments in the extractive industries. A short guide to the Initiative is available (pdf or html versions).
