International Citizen Service

Your chance to make a real difference to the world we live in

03 March 2011

International Citizen Service

Apply nowInternational Citizen Service (ICS) is a global volunteering experience which supports young people from all backgrounds to make a real difference to some of the world’s poorest people. This new initiative, launched by the Prime Minister and funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), will give thousands of 18-22 year olds across the UK the chance to join in the fight against global poverty. Places are also available for some team leaders who will mentor the other volunteers and contribute their skills and experience.

We are passionate about the potential for people coming together to make a real difference to the world and build a bigger and stronger global society – if you are too then ICS is for you.

Applications for the pilot first year of ICS are now open and the first volunteers will go overseas from June 2011. Placements will be available for 1,080 18-22 year olds and 170 team leaders (23 years +) in the pilot phase in 2011/12. Participation is free for people on low incomes.

Plans are in place to expand ICS following the pilot, giving more young people the opportunity to contribute to communities overseas and at home. If you are interested in applying, please get in touch using the addresses below.

"You go across hoping to change Africa. You return knowing Africa changed you. Experiencing what tourists don’t see, jumping into matatus, cooking ugali, visiting communities, appearing on TV as part of an anti-drugs protest”

Jenny Steele, former volunteer in Kenya (aged 19 at time of volunteering)
