Global Trade and Financial Architecture
The papers posted below were prepared for the project 'Global Trade and Financial Architecture', the main findings of which are summarized in the short policy note, 'Strengthening the Global Trade Architecture for Economic Development: An Agenda for Action'. A few research papers were originally prepared for other purposes but informed the project.
The programme of work was designed to build on the findings of the report of the United Nations (UN) Millennium Taskforce on trade ('Trade for Development') . It's objectives were to identify and analyze options for making the multilateral trading system more supportive of development, and in particular to follow-up on the specific recommendations in the UN taskforce report for expanded 'Aid for Trade' to complement the Doha negotiations and the need for new approaches on special and differential treatment of developing countries in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The programme comprised a steering committee consisting of researchers and policymakers, chaired by Ernesto Zedillo, the Director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. Members included:
