Doha Development Round (DDA)

The Doha World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial began in 2001. The DDA was the work programme adopted that envisioned a broad round of trade negotiations at the 4th WTO Ministerial in Doha by trade ministers representing 142 countries. It provided a mandate for negotiations on a range of subjects including agriculture and services. The current round of negotiations will be the 6th Ministerial conference in Hong Kong in December 2005.

During the UK's Presidency of the European Union (EU) the Government will work with our EU partners, the Commission and the European Parliament to achieve the best possible result at the ministerial meeting. We want an outcome which leads to global economic growth, including through better access to markets for developing countries, in particular for the poorest nations in the world. We also want an outcome which reflects the Millennium Development Goals, and which allows the DDA to be completed during 2006.
