About Global Development Effectiveness Division
Global Development Effectiveness Division (GDED) started on 23 October 2006.
Owen Barder leads this division whose focus is to help solve problems that
cannot be solved at a country level alone. They will work in partnership with
others across DFID, Whitehall and the international system to achieve change.
GDED will focus on a small number of achievable, strategic objectives and its
priorities will be determined by what country teams tell them will contribute
most to their work.
Responsibilities include:
working with other donors, bilaterally and through international processes
like the G8, to improve rich country policies that affect development;
fighting international corruption and increasing financial accountability;
promoting aid effectiveness and the country-led approach;
improving the international aid architecture;
ensuring that donors meet their promises to scale up aid so that there are
more resources available for development;
promoting trade policies that encourage economic growth and poverty
reduction;
managing development for results; and
using statistics to inform and support development programmes.
