1. How much funding has the UK given to the developing world i.e. Africa, Latin America and Asia since 1990.

Details on the amount of net Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided by the UK between 1990 and 2006, broken down by region, can be found in the table below. The UK’s provisional net ODA for 2007 is estimated at £4,957 million. A regional breakdown of UK ODA in 2007 is not yet available. Please also note that DFID publishes an annual publication called ‘Statistics on International Development’ which provides full details of total external assistance, both bilateral (country to country) and through multilateral agencies, from all official UK sources. Copies are available on our website.

The primary reason for the decline in UK ODA in 2007 is the result of lower levels of debt relief. In 2006 the UK gave more than £1.9 billion in debt relief, primarily to Nigeria; this fell to £35 million in 2007. Despite the decline in 2007, the UK remains on target to provide 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) as ODA by 2013, two years ahead of the EU target.

2. how much funding has gone into providing HIV/AIDS prophylactics i.e. condoms and family planning in each of the above regions since 1990 (not medication)?

3. how much funding has gone into HIV/IDS medication in each of the above regions since 1990.

We do not hold information which would fully answer these questions. DFID does not collate data that would separately identify the amounts spent on HIV and AIDS prevention and HIV and AIDS treatment. However, DFID introduced a methodology last year to determine its total funding for all HIV and AIDS activities. The table below shows how much DFID has spent in total in each region on HIV and AIDS since 2004/05. Data is not available before this period.
