NB: Some of these terms are specific to DFID, others are used throughout the development community.

Value for money - A combination of economy, efficiency and effectiveness i.e. having the right goods or services at the right quality in the right place at the right time.

Verification - process of establishing or confirming the accuracy of something.

Virement - in DFID is the process of re allocating money within various sub divisions of a vote. It is a method of varying the allocation of funds granted by Parliament which may be exercised at the discretion of Treasury, the fundamental consideration being the need not to infringe on Parliament's control of expenditure.

Vision - imaginative plan, foresight (see also: Mission).

Vote - see Supply Estimate.

VSO - Voluntary Service Overseas

Vulnerability - The propensity of a population group to experience substantial damage, disruption and casualties as a result of a hazard.
