JICA - Japan International Co-operation Agency Joint Funding Scheme (JFS) - The JFS was established by the DFID in 1975 to help British voluntary agencies to extend their work among the poor in developing countries. Five agencies receive annual allocations, but any other British voluntary organisation is eligible to apply for a grant - which is usually 50 per cent of the cost of projects aimed directly at the poorest people. Projects range from immunisation programmes and basic health care, through vocational training and the improvement of agricultural methods, to innovative income-generating schemes. Joint Venture - a business arrangement in which two organisations invest in a project over which both have partial control; collaboration without full scale merger (Source: Dictionary of Economics).
