Update: country plan
Due to serious instability in Yemen, DFID is keeping its programmes and operational plan under close review. We will seek to publish a revised operational plan once circumstances in Yemen permit.
Yemen is the poorest country in the Middle East. Its challenges include widespread poverty, high population growth, deteriorating economic prospects, political tensions, conflict and weak governance.
Due to serious instability in Yemen, DFID is keeping its programmes and Operational Plan under close review. We will seek to publish a revised Operational Plan once circumstances in Yemen permit.
While much of our current development programme is on hold, we are continuing to provide support where we can to poor and vulnerable Yemenis.
Through the Yemeni Social Fund for Development we are supporting access to basic services, such as education, health and water, across the country. We are providing £7.5 million for UNICEF and OCHA’s Emergency Response Fund and £7.9 million for ICRC and a consortium of international NGOs to help alleviate the protracted crisis in the north and respond to conflict in the south.
