Towards a better future: working with Kenya to tackle corruption

11 December 2009

The Department for International Development together with the British High Commission have launched a publication titled "Towards a better future: working with Kenya to tackle corruption". The publication sets out on current initiatives that exist in the fight against corruption and how the UK government is supporting Kenya in its efforts.

"Donors can help strengthen Kenyan institutions and systems to tackle corruption.  But ultimately real action requires political will, which will come as a result of pressure from Kenyans." said Alistair Fernie, Head of DFID Kenya & Somalia, as he launched the report on Friday with the British High Commissioner H.E Rob Macaire.

The brochure was launched with organisations working to fight corruption in Kenya, some of whom are supported by DFID.  The brochure explains why fighting corruption matters, what initiatives there are in Kenya and how the UK is supporting them.  It aims to re-energise the debate on corruption and stimulate further action to tackle it.

"Wherever it occurs, corruption makes the rich richer and the poor poorer" said H.E. Rob Macaire at the launch "The purpose of this booklet is to show what that common effort can consist of.  It gives a very brief outline of what the UK is actually doing, rather than just saying, to help fight corruption in Kenya." he added.
