Minister for Development Gareth Thomas today welcomed Baroness Ashton's appointment as Europe's High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security.
"I would like to congratulate Cathy Ashton on her appointment to this important new role," he said.
"Having worked with her as a trade commissioner in recent years I know she is committed to seeking a fair deal on trade for all countries.
"She is passionate about helping the world's poorest countries to trade their way out of poverty and I am sure she will continue to act as an ambassador for trade and development within her new role."
